AC 10: Fishguard 2004

In 2004 the Contest was held in the UK for the first time. Appropriately, the location of the event was the west Wales town of Fishguard, site of the an attempted French invasion in 1797 (the year after the invasion of Bantry Bay). The Contest continued the newly established enlarged fleet begun in 2002, with 14 gigs taking part, including an International team in the Northern Irish gig Harmonie. Despite a now (in)famous crash in the Captain’s Gig, Integrite finished the Contest in first place overall, and the UK won the Atlantic Challenge for the first time.
