The 2008 Atlantic Challenge was held in its most northerly location yet, in the Finnish town of Jakobstad. The overall contest had one of the closest ever finishes, with Russia winning in the gig Dignite and the UK in second place in Integrite. The two crews were separated by a single point, decided only in the final rowing race of the entire Contest. The UK crew demonstrated exceptional skill in winning a Jackstay Transfer held in extremely difficult conditions and were also awarded the Seamanship Trophy as recognition. This was the first Atlantic Challenge to include the newly devised ‘Passage Race’ event.
